This unique charm necklace is influenced by the Mexican Day of the Dead or Día de los Muertos on November 1st, where people celebrate the lives of and pay their respects to deceased friends and family members. Traditions connected with the holiday include building private altars honouring the deceased using sugar skulls and marigolds and the favourite foods and beverages of the departed and visiting graves with these as gifts. This is a colourful celebration and not a sombre occasion!
I have made this necklace with coloured howlite imitation turquoise skulls, colourful millefiori glass heart shaped and round beads, cloisonne beads, cloisonne crosses, glass chilli pepper charms, silver metal skulls, cross, leaf, and heart charms, a selection of glass and acrylic beads and acrylic flowers to represent the marigolds.
The chain is silver plated and fastens with a lobster clasp. It measures 18 inches with a 2 inch extension chain.
Each of my Day of the Dead charm necklaces is a unique design.
